What is a Vehicle Inspection?
California is notorious for marching to the beat of its own drummer, and the state's high emissions standards are a prime example of this. On the one hand, we've ended up setting the standard for the rest of the country. On the other, that means motor vehicle inspections here are no picnic if your car isn't in tip-top shape.
Unless your vehicle falls into an exempt class (models from 1975 and earlier, EVs, natural gas-powered vehicles lighter than Class 4 that are less than six years old), you're required to have its emissions tested every two years. If you're not sure whether the exemption applies to you, call or visit your nearest Keyes service center.
If you've just purchased a new vehicle, or if your vehicle passes inspection, you'll be good to go for another two years.
