Peace of Mind
One of the great things about buying a new car is that it comes with a factory warranty that takes care of any defects and covers repairs. Your local dealership will take care of any warranty work and vehicle repairs for many trouble-free miles. When your factory warranty expires, extended warranties are available through the car manufacturer or third parties to continue coverage.

In researching the best warranties by automakers today, we focused on the following criteria. All factory warranties are limited, and the length and mileage limits of the warranty is important. The longer the term, the better the warranty. Generally speaking, powertrain warranties last longer than bumper-to-bumper coverage because they cover fewer components.

Warranty Benefits

We also looked at what each automaker offers in the way of inclusions to the warranty.

  • What comes with the warranty?
  • What is covered?
  • What is not covered by way of exclusions to the warranty?

Some carmakers include additional benefits such as free scheduled maintenance for a limited time, or roadside assistance, towing, and rental cars as part of the general warranty. Some manufacturers even include trip interruption coverage.

Which factory warranties are best? Let's find out.
Top Five Factory Warranties
When buying a new car, the factory warranty offers peace of mind. It's the automaker's promise that if something goes wrong, it will be taken care of. We have researched all the factory warranties currently available and have come up with our top five. Three of these are owned by Korea-based Hyundai Motor Company, namely, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.
Hyundai
Five-years or 60,000 miles

Hyundai is known all over the world for its superior auto warranties. The automaker leads the way with high-reliability ratings, excellent safety scores, and exceptional bumper-to-bumper coverage. Hyundai's five-years or 60,000-mile coverage is one of the longest warranties available along with its outstanding ten-years or 100,000-miles powertrain warranty. It also raised the bar with its five-years of roadside assistance with no mileage limit.
Kia
Five-years or 60,000 miles

In the last few years, the affordable Kia marquee has become one of the top brands in the industry. Its Niro compact crossover and Sorrento midsize SUV plug-in hybrids are extremely popular. The automaker's new all-electric EV6 is due in showrooms by the end of 2022. All Kia cars offer the same exemplary warranties as Hyundai vehicles. This includes five-years or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper, and a ten-years or 100,000-miles powertrain warranty. However, roadside assistance is capped at 60,000 miles.
Genesis
Five-years or 60,000 miles

Genesis is Hyundai's luxury brand, well known for its stylish sedans and sexy SUVs including the all-new G90 top-of-the-line sedan. JD Power named Genesis the number one luxury brand for long-term dependability in 2022. New for 2023, Genesis will launch its GV80 SUV and all-electric GV70. All Genesis vehicles offer the same Hyundai warranties including a five-years, 60,000-miles bumper-to-bumper, ten-years or 100,000-miles powertrain protection.
Jaguar
Five-years or 60,000 miles

Offering the best coverage among luxury brands, the venerable Jaguar marquee boasts Elitecare which entails a five-years or 60,000-miles bumper-to-bumper, powertrain, roadside assistance, and scheduled maintenance across all models. Jaguar InControl Remote & Protect lets you stay connected to your vehicle. All F-Pace plug-in hybrids and I-Pace all-electric SUVs include EV battery coverage of eight-years or 100,000 miles.
Mitsubishi
Five-years or 60,000 miles

Hot on the heels of Hyundai and Jaguar, Mitsubishi offers a similar five-years or 60,000-miles bumper-to-bumper warranty, and a ten-years or 100,000-miles powertrain warranty to inspire confidence. It also gives you five-years of roadside assistance coverage. Complete coverage is available on its compact Mirage, eclipse and Outlander crossovers, and the Outlander plug-in hybrid.
The Wrap Up
When deciding on the make and model of new car for you, take the time to find out about the factory warranty and make sure it meets your needs. Read the warranty carefully, especially the details on exclusions and exceptions. Remember that in order for your car warranty to stay in effect, you have to keep up with scheduled maintenance on the vehicle. Lithia Motors can help out with that to make sure you have many happy, trouble-free miles ahead.Â
