When shopping for a new or used car, it's good to know which make and models of cars and SUVs are most popular with the buying public, what their average selling price is, and how many days, on average, they spend on the lot. Across America, approximately 52 million new and used are sold each year. Our latest statistics show that sales of new cars have slowed down by 21.6 percent for average days on the market, while used car sales are up by 30.5 percent.

You may find it interesting to know that in both new and used markets, all-electric cars (EVs) take the greatest number of days to sell while Hybrid vehicles sell the fastest. On average, it takes 54 days to sell a new gas-powered car at dealer lots compared to 70.6 days to sell an EV and 49.5 days to sell a Hybrid vehicle. 

Hottest Selling

What is the hottest selling new car in America right now? That would be the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which moves off dealer lots in just 14 days on average. It is followed by the boxy Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV and the excellent Land Rover Range Rover. When it comes to used cars, the fastest selling vehicles are the Lexus RX 350h crossover that generally zooms off the lot in just 12.3 days, followed by the less expensive Lexus NX 350h and Lexus NX 250 Hybrid.

Speaking of fuel-efficient Hybrids, six of the top 20 fastest selling new vehicles on the road today are Hybrids while eight of the top 20 fastest-selling used vehicles are Hybrids.

In the tenth spot we find the ultra-reliable Toyota Corolla. This tried-and-true four-door sedan or hatchback only sits at dealer lots an average of 28.5 days and is sold for an average price of $25,359. Note that the sedan version now offers a Hybrid powertrain.

At number nine we find the popular three-row SUV known for its strong fuel economy and suite of safety and driver assist features. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is only on dealer lots an average of 28.3 days and sells for an average of $50,646. For 2025, all-wheel drive is standard.

Cadillac's large luxury three-row, eight-passenger SUV gets styling upgrades for 2025 including massive 24-inch wheels and Super Cruise hands-free driving is now standard. The Escalade only spends an average of 26.2 days at dealer lots and sells for an average of $110,947.
 
Three-rows, an extended body, and lots of cargo space makes for the perfect family mover in the Toyota Grand Highlander. Powertrains include two different Hybrid options and many standard driver assist features. It hangs around dealer lots an average of 24.4 days and sells for an average of $52,933.

This mid-size pickup truck is a hot seller, great for on- and off-road adventures. It's offered with a four-door cab with a single bed length and a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It leaves dealers in an average of 23.8 days at an average price of $42,158. Max towing capacity is 7,700 pounds.
At number five on our list, the GMC Canyon is the mechanical twin to the Chevy Colorado but is a bit more expensive. There's even an off-road worthy AT4X AEV Edition with 17-inch AEV wheels and 35-inch Goodyear tires. It is quick to leave dealerships within 23 days at an average price of $49,687.

America's most fuel-efficient minivan, the Sierra Hybrid offers a comfy ride and all-wheel drive. Second row ottomans, a fridge, and a built-in vacuum are available on upper trim levels. It rolls out of dealer lots at 22.9 days on average at a cost of $53,894.

Attractive styling, a plush cabin and comfortable ride makes the Range Rover a favorite luxury SUV that is capable on challenging terrain. For 2025 an upgraded Meridian sound system comes standard. It averages just 19.3 days on dealer lots and sells for an average of $158,893.

In the number two spot we find an off-road 4x4 beast with a luxury leather interior with massaging seats, the G-Class offers 9.5-inches of ground clearance, a 416-horsepower twin-turbo V8 and four-wheel drive. Only found in dealerships an average of 18.7 days, the average price is an upscale $206,737.

Our number one fastest-selling new car in America is a popular Hybrid called the Grand Highlander Hybrid. New for 2024, two Hybrid powertrains spread over three trim levels, the XLE gets an EPA estimated 36 mpg combined. It leaves dealers within 14.2 days on average and sells for an average price of $55,224.

With competent handling and excellent build quality, the CR-V Hybrid is a popular crossover SUV that occupies dealer lots for 22.9 days on average and sells for $31,591.

A classic two-door convertible sports car makes the top 10 in the form of the MX-5 Miata. Examples leave dealer lots in an average of 22.5 days at an average price of just $27,237.

The faithful 12th gen Corolla Hybrid brings impressive fuel economy and lots of safety features. It spends an average of 21.8 days at dealers, selling for an average of $23,016.

With four powertrain options, the luxurious NX 350 is based on the Toyota RAV4. It only hangs around dealers for an average of 21.6 days and sells at $43,328 on average.

Used versions of the Highlander Hybrid are very popular. The SUV has been around since 2006, gracing dealers for just 21.4 days on average, selling for an average $39,409.
Luxury and performance for less, the IS 500 is a standout among small sport sedans. Leaving dealerships within 21.4 days on average at an average price of $59,489.

A Plug-In Hybrid makes our top 10 in the fourth spot. The well-appointed compact crossover visits dealers for just 20 days on average and sells for an average of $24,276.

Spacious for a small luxury SUV, the NX 250 comes with four engine choices and plenty of tech goodies. On sale for an average of just 19.8 days, it sells for an average $38,772. 

A luxury Hybrid with all the bells and whistles, the NX 350h is quick to leave dealerships with an average 15.8 days on the lot and a price that averages $44,419.

Our top three used cars all wear the Lexus badge. The handsome RX 350h has a spacious cabin and modern tech features in a pleasing Hybrid package. The fastest selling used car today, it is only on dealer lots for an average 12.3 days and sells for an average price of $57,229.
