2025 Nissan Maxima

An All-electric Maxima!
If the entirely new Nissan Maxima is anything like the concept drawings, this is going to be one sleek and sexy four-door sports car. The Maxima has been a top selling sedan, the largest in the automaker's line-up, for over 40 years. It first debuted in 1982 back when Nissan was still called Datsun. It was marketed as an upscale alternative to the company's Altima sedan. The last gasoline-powered Maxima will roll off the assembly line in Smyrna, Tennessee later this year and will take a year off before being reborn as a luxury electric vehicle in 2025, coming out of Nissan's plant in Canton, Mississippi. The automaker has spent $500 million to transform the assembly plant to build new EVs for Nissan and Infiniti.

The new Maxima EV will borrow much of its forward-thinking styling from the IMs concept vehicle which debuted in 2019 that Nissan calls "an elevated sport sedan." It will likely receive many powertrain components from the all-electric Ariya crossover SUV. Very few aspects from the present Maxima will transfer over to the new EV. In fact, the only similarity the new sedan will have with the present one is the number of doors.

Power

Riding on Nissan's CMF-EV platform which is shared with the Ariya, expect a base model offering a single electric motor for front-wheel drive producing an estimated 214 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Like the Ariya, the new Maxima will likely include an all-wheel drive variant with two motors pushing out an estimated 389 horses. Industry insiders suspect that a top-of-the-line trim might include the same power used in the IMs concept car, which made a whopping 483 horsepower! Best estimates of range as of this writing is 304 miles before the Maxima will need a recharge.

Inside the Cabin

Expect a clean, functional, and elegant interior showcasing an upscale 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-dash navigation, a voice command assistant, a Wi-Fi hot spot, smartphone charging, USB ports, and the very latest in safety and driver assist functions. The latest version of Nissan's ProPilot system will allow hands free driving in certain conditions as well as adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and lane keep assist.
A flat, low floor will add to the feeling of spaciousness in the cabin, with plenty of legroom in the back seat. Up front you'll find comfy zero gravity seats and behind the back seats, the hatchback will provide plenty of cargo space for you and your family. Starting MSRP is estimated to be $44,000.
