New Jeep Wagoneer
Return of an American Classic SUV.
After a 20-year absence on the American auto scene, the luxurious Grand Wagoneer is back for 2022 blending modern design with an unmistakable heritage. The all-new Grand Wagoneer is big. Take a mighty Ram 1500 pickup truck chassis and place a massive SUV body on top and you begin to see the idea behind this 214.7-inch long, mega wagon. It is bigger than its rivals the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Chevrolet Tahoe or Cadillac Escalade and also bests the competition with 27.4 feet of cargo space.

American Icon

Originally designed as a truck sized station wagon by industrial designer Brooks Stevens in 1960, the Grand Wagoneer was one of the first sport utility vehicles, enjoying a successful run from 1962 to 1991. The four-wheel drive Wagoneer stayed in production for an amazing 29 years, making it the third longest running single generation vehicle in U.S. auto history. It made its debut for Americans looking for a big, luxurious family-mover seven years before Land Rover launched its Range Rover in England.
  
In our time behind the wheel of the big SUV, we found that its weight was apparent on curvy mountain or canyon roads where you can feel it sway as you turn from one sweeping curve into the next. It is not an unwieldy truck, but demands respect and a constant hand on the tiller. On the highway, the ride is plush and plenty soft for long road trips. Despite its bulk, the Grand Wagoneer feels light and easy on a long, straight road.
A "Premium" Brand.
You definitely get the feeling that the marketing pros at Jeep want to distance the Grand Wagoneer from the rest of the Jeep line-up of adventure mobiles in favor of a high end pedigree. Marketing wizards for the automaker call the Wagoneer "a premium extension of the Jeep brand." While consumers know that the new Wagoneer is indeed a Jeep, there is not one Jeep badge anywhere to be found on the vehicle. From a distance, the Grand Wagoneer looks like a big brother to the Land Rover line and certainly offers the build quality and design aesthetic to back that up. It is a beautiful SUV. Now that old school concept of creating a big, luxury laden SUV is back with exciting new levels of comfort, technology and safety in mind. The Wagoneer features an independent rear suspension with improved rigidity over its RAM-inspired chassis. Aluminum structural parts helps to lose weight in this big SUV, offering stable road maneuverability. But even by adding an aluminum hood, doors and fenders as well as a composite liftgate, the Grand Wagoneer still arrives weighing in at a whopping 6,200 pounds.

Quadra-Lift

All Wagoneers come with load-leveling as a standard feature. Quadra-Lift air springs are optional on Series II and III and come standard in the Grand Wagoneer. The system is capable of raising the SUV by 1.7 inches for 10 inches of ground clearance. Not that you'd take this behemoth off-road to ford streams, but it is capable of 24 inches of water-fording prowess. 

The system will also drop the SUV down to help you get in and out of it. The Grand Wagoneer comes standard with a Quadra-Drive II four-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled locking rear differential.

A Look Inside

Mountain climbing and river crossing aside, the Grand Wagoneer was created to take large families wherever they might want to go in a very civilized and even luxurious mode of transport. Driving in this big SUV is a true limousine experience. Notice the stylish wood trim. You have a choice of lots of Bentley-level walnut wood or aluminum trim throughout. You'll find three rows of extremely comfortable leather seats with plenty of room to stretch out and all the seats are easily accessible. 

In fact, the Wagoneer offers best-in-class passenger volume and plenty of headroom and legroom in all three rows as well as lots of cargo volume in the back, behind that third row of seating. There's even an interior video camera so the driver can see what the kids are up to way in the back and an optional refrigerator on board.

One of the great design elements is the Grand Wagoneer's full-length, single-pane glass roof that offers incredible views that fills the cabin with panoramic views for the whole family. It also includes something called Intelligent LED lighting that cuts through the night with a dynamic 180-degree lateral rotation and an integrated electronic headlamp motor that follows every twist and turn in the road. That's right, the headlights actually follow the road for you.

When it comes to fingertip controls, the Grand Wagoneer gives you a wide digital gauge cluster, plus a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and also a smaller screen below it that controls such important features as the seat massage. The front seat passenger gets their own dash mounted display screen to play with. It's all part of a very impressive plethora of infotainment features as well as the latest safety and driver assist goodies.

Under the Hood

Four trim levels will be available for the Grand Wagoneer but they are all powered by a muscular Chrysler Hemi 471 horsepower, 6.4-liter V-8 engine. 

The mighty motor is married to an excellent eight-speed automatic transmission and the package offers up an amazing 455 pound-feet of torque. Zero to 60 miles per hour happens in 7.3 seconds. Four-wheel drive Wagoneers manage EPA fuel-economy of 15 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.
Trim Levels
As you might expect, each trim level offers up a long list of interesting options. These include Amazon connectivity for the middle row passengers, who have their own touchscreens, and several versions of quality McIntosh audio systems including a mega 1,375-watt system that includes a 12-inch subwoofer to get the cabin rockin'. No matter which trim level you choose, the new Wagoneer is a supreme ride in a stealth package poised to please the high end market. Look out Escalade, the new Grand Wagoneer is coming for your gold in a much less gaudy way.
Pricing
The Base Wagoneer Series I will have an MSRP of $59,995.
The Wagoneer Series II will come in at $69,995.
The Wagoneer Series III will reach $79,995.
The Upscale Grand Wagoneer Series I will have an MSRP of $88,995.
The Grand Wagoneer Series II will hit $95,995.
The Grand Wagoneer Obsidian will cost you $100,995.
And the mega Grand Wagoneer Series III will top out at $105,995.

Jeep is even offering service representatives known as "Wagoneer Ambassadors" who can answer any questions you might have before and after purchase. It's part of the automakers' push to elevate the brand to epic, Mercedes-like premium form. As the folks from Jeep say, "The Grand Wagoneer arrives as an unmistakable work of art and distinction." We'd have to agree.
