The same, yet Different!

Here we have two all-electric SUVs that have hit the market to much fanfare. Developed as a co-creation between General Motors and Honda, the Chevy Blazer EV and Honda Prologue share the same frame and overall architecture and are built at the same factory, produced at GM's plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.

While these two smart SUVs are the same in many ways, they are also different in overall feel, looks, and style. How are they different and which one might be right for you? Let's take a closer look.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV

The Blazer EV is NOT the same vehicle as the regular gasoline-powered Blazer. The two are in fact available at your Chevy dealership and both deliver thrilling performance, family-friendly features and room for five. However, the Blazer EV is the one we are focusing on here.

In many ways, the Chevy Blazer EV and Honda Prologue are identical, but their differences are fascinating. It is like cooking up two very different dishes by using the same ingredients. For instance, they both share an 11-inch digital gauge cluster, but the Blazer EV has a bigger infotainment touchscreen which is a whopping 17-7-inch customizable screen that we found extremely user friendly. The Honda's touchscreen comes in at 11.3-inches by comparison. Speaking of infotainment, the Prologue comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while the Blazer EV does not.

Driving range is a big deal when you are considering an EV and when it comes to range, the Blazer EV wins out. The single-motor rear-wheel drive Blazer EV will take you up to an EPA-Estimated 324 miles before needing a charge while the Prologue with the single-motor front-wheel drive set-up has a maximum range of 296 miles.

Another plus for the Blazer EV is that it can be purchased with available Super Cruise, GM's hands-free driving technology. It allows you to drive with your hands off the steering wheel on over 400,000 miles of American highways. The Prologue does not have this technology.

2024 Honda Prologue

This is the first all-electric mainstream SUV for Honda, and the Prologue looks and feels a bit different from the Blazer EV. The Prologue certainly looks like a Honda, built to be extremely reliable and mainstream. It is a bit boring compared to the sleek and sporty design of the Blazer EV. The same can be said for the interior.

The Honda looks like a Honda inside, and it is an ergonomically friendly place to be that's free of clutter, has comfortable seats, controls that are easy to reach, and muted tones. The Blazer EV has more of a sporty vibe. The two-tone seats and dash in the Blazer EV go great with the crossover's aggressive exterior styling.

When it comes to highlights for the Prologue, many drivers are essentially addicted to such smartphone connectivity features as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With the Honda you can use your smartphone music, maps, and entertainment right on the car's screen. Not so with the Chevy.

While both vehicles are available with all-wheel drive, the standard Prologue comes with a single motor and front-wheel drive while the base Chevy has a motor at the back.

Trim Levels

Let's talk about options. The Chevy is available in six trim levels. These include the base AWD LT, LT eAWD, AWD RS, RS eAWD, RS RWD, and top-of-the-line SS. The RS RWD gets you 340 horsepower and the most range at an EPA estimated 324 miles. But for the ultimate, the SS version comes with 557 horses and all-wheel drive.

The Prologue has five trim levels that run the gamut from the EX FWD, EX AWD, Touring FWD, Touring AWD, to the Elite AWD. Even the entry level comes with heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and wireless smartphone charging. The Touring models add a Bose sound system and leather seats. The FWD models offer the most range at an EPA estimated 297 miles.

Performance Differences

And that brings us to how fast these electric SUVs can take you from zero to 60 miles per hour. We know these are family movers, but sometimes, you've got to get somewhere in a hurry.

The single-motor Prologue manages 212-horsepower while the dual motor version beefed up to 288-ponies. The fastest of the Hondas is the AWD Elite that can take you from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.

The Chevys are a bit faster. The rear-wheel drive RS model gets a more powerful motor delivering 340 horses and a zero to 60 mph time of 6.0 seconds. But the fastest Blazer EV is the SS model with its dual motor AWD 557-horsepower powertrain. It will get you to 60 mph in under 4 seconds.
Which is Best for You?

These two electric SUVs are built at the same factory using the same architecture, motors and 85.0 kWh or 105.0 kWh General Motors Ultium battery packs. Still, they have differences that make each stand out for different reasons.

If you want the best range and speed as well as hands-free driving, the Blazer EV may be calling your name. If your family is more into conservative looks but you've got to have your Apple CarPlay or Android Auto entertainment, then the Prologue is for you. Check them out at your local Lithia Chevrolet or Honda dealer.
