2024 RAM 1500 TRX

BAD TO THE BONE
There are all kinds of pickup trucks available on the market these days, from the diminutive compact Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick, to the mighty International CXT, the largest production pickup truck ever manufactured. But what about if you want to be the Arnold Schwarzenegger of your neighborhood? What truck is currently considered the baddest of the bad? There can be only one; the 2024 RAM 1500 TRX.

You hear this monster coming long before it arrives. Its throaty V8 exhaust howls through canyon roads and backwater trails. Under the meaty hood is a roaring 6.2-liter Hemi V8, the very same 702-horsepower monster that powers the legendary Dodge Hellcat. The TRX sports a capable eight-speed automatic transmission and Terminator-worthy four-wheel drive system that allows this humongous battlecruiser to take on the most treacherous post-apocalyptic landscapes. Only the 700-horse Ford F-150 Raptor R can come close to this kind of testosterone-pumping package.

Is it fast? Are you kidding? Try zero to 60 miles per hour in a scant 3.7 seconds and it will tear up a quarter mile in just 12.3 seconds at 110 mph. That makes this the fastest truck we've ever piloted. And the whole time, that Hemi howls like a banshee in heat as it leaves all other full-size trucks in the dust. Some say it was designed by The Wolverine for just this purpose.

Last Year for the V8

If the TRX gets your blood pumping, you'd best act fast as 2024 is the last year for the V8 Hemi. An all-new RAM 1500 TRX will appear in 2025 boasting a V6 (more on that later). Right now, the 2024 TRX will be offered exclusively as a Final Edition model in such colors as:
  • Harvest Sunrise
  • Night Edge Blue
  • Delmonico Red and includes special graphics
It comes with Satin Titanium wheels that are beadlock-capable, and inside you'll find lavish luxury including "TRX" embroidery, synthetic suede door panels, and a Final Edition gauge cluster. Only 4,000 of these Final Edition trucks will be built and will retail for over 100 Grand.

Under the Bulging Hood

The last of the V8s is that supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi that pumps out a massive 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The twin-screw supercharger provides instant torque, has a maximum speed of 14,600 rpm and can regulate boost pressure up to 11.0-psi. A massive air induction system filters out dirt and debris, while consuming 32.9 liters of air per minute. The TRX is the first RAM truck to offer Launch Control for maximum acceleration.
To control all that power, the TRX utilizes a 98 percent high strength steel frame designed for enhanced stability, durability, and rigidity. A beefed-up suspension with Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers and an electronic-locking rear differential offers 13 inches of travel. It all rolls on a set of 35-inch all-terrain tires on aggressive-looking 18-inch wheels for an impressive 11.8-inches of ground clearance. Awe-inspiring power and acceleration also require amazing braking, and this 1500 gives you huge 15-inch front brakes to slow this bad boy down.

The TRX can carry up to 1,310 pounds of payload and tow an impressive 8,100 pounds. As you might suspect, that thirsty V8 sucks up a bunch of gasoline. The EPA has rated it at 10 mpg city and 14 mpg on the highway for 12 mpg combined.

Inside the Cabin

The TRX is only offered as a crew cab with a short bed. Inside its Mad Max exterior, the cabin is all about comfort and connectivity. You find rich materials and a level of refinement that is new to RAM. Optional TR1 and TR2 packages bring heated leather seats and carbon fiber details and a head-up display.

A 12-inch infotainment touchscreen can be divided into separate menus offering Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and built-in navigation. A 900-watt, 19-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system is an option. Driver assist technology includes cameras that assist hooking up a trailer, and optional lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

On the Road

This is one seriously quick big truck, and it also performs well off road. It can ford up to 32-inches of water. Thanks to its reinforced steel frame and beefy suspension, it can traverse sand or snow, and climb rocky mountains with the greatest of ease, with over 13 inches of travel.

So, the big RAM is crazy quick, can launch straight up a mountain, while cradling you in comfort inside. But it is also amazingly refined on highways, with the option of digital mirrors and paddle shifters on its flat-bottom heated steering wheel. However, that is not what lures you to this beast. In a world of small compact hybrids that look like used bars of soap, the TRX brings big noise, big power, and massive cajones.
What's Next?
As mentioned, 2024 is the last year for the Hemi V8 version of the half-ton TRX. For 2025, expect it to appear with a facelift and a bit quieter 550-horsepower twin-turbo straight six. A tuned-up version of the Hurricane motor used in the Jeep Wagoneer will still give the Ford F-150 Raptor a run for its money and will no doubt suck a bit less gasoline than its V8 brother. 2024 RAM 1500 TRX Final Edition: Starting MSRP - $119,620.
