Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Looking back ten years, the Silverado offered powerful fuel-efficient engines, a well-built comfortable interior, and a wide range of available options. It got a new eight-speed automatic transmission to go with its optional 6.2-liter V8 engine in 2015 on upper tiered trim levels. It can tow up to 12,000 pounds when properly equipped. EPA rated fuel economy with the baseline 4.3-liter V6 is an estimated 18 mpg city/24 mpg highway/19 mpg combined. All trim levels include OnStar automatic crash notification.

Ford F-150

All new for 2015, the redesigned F-150 series boasted an all-aluminum body to shave off 700 pounds of weight for a faster, lighter truck that offered better fuel economy and more towing capacity. An optional 3.6-liter turbo V6 bumps towing up to 12,200 pounds. It includes 360 camera views, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. There are many trim levels and engine configurations to choose from, and the EPA estimated fuel efficiency rating for the base 3.5-liter V6 is 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway/20 mpg combined.

GMC Sierra 1500

With an impressive lineup of body styles, a comfortable quiet cabin, and a choice of powerful fuel-efficient engines, the Sierra is a top contender for a great used full-size truck. Redesigned for 2015, the GMC improved cabin quality and added high tech features. A fuel-saving V6 with a six-speed automatic transmission was standard all the way up to a 6.2-liter V8 for heavy towing of up to 12,000 pounds. The V6 had an EPA rated fuel efficiency rating of 18 mpg city/24 mpg highway/20 mpg combined. Available with a suite of driver assist features, the Sierra took the NHTSA's top Five Star safety rating.

RAM 1500

The 1500 is a very capable and versatile truck and ten years ago its "EcoDiesel" diesel-powered V6 version offered the best EPA ratings for fuel efficiency. It also offered a 5.7-liter V8 variant. The RAM showcased the nicest cabin of the trucks on our list, with an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen and lots of luxurious amenities. The base 3.6-liter V6 and eight-speed transmission brings 305 horsepower and an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway/21 mpg combined. The EcoDiesel version brings you 24 mpg combined and the V8 equipped RAM can tow up to 10,650 pounds.

Toyota Tundra

Beginning with the 2015 Tundra, Toyota stopped offering a V6 and instead the very capable work wagon came standard with a V8 for more oomph! The automaker also added the kickass TRD Pro Off-Road trim level in that year. If you're looking for maximum room, look for the CrewMax cab version. Maximum towing capacity is 6,400 to 6,800 pounds depending on body style. EPA estimated fuel economy for the 4.6-liter V8 is 15 mpg city/19 mpg highway/16 mpg combined. The meatier 5.6-liter V8 gets an EPA estimated 13 mpg city/18 mpg highway/15 mpg combined. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert is optional.
